Longtime Teacher and Administrator Judith McMasters Dies

Judith McMasters served the Bishop Kelley community as an English Teacher, Speech and Debate Teacher and Coach, Academic Vice Principal, friend, and mentor.  In every role she performed with excellence, enthusiasm, and humility.

As a speech coach, Judith knew her craft.  Her record of team Regional and State Championships, individual Regional and State Champions, and National Qualifiers speaks for itself.  She was and is a legend in the world of Oklahoma Speech and Debate.

As Academic Vice Principal, Judith was an advocate for teachers and students.  Her new teacher training programs provide a great platform of support for teachers new to the classroom, the Bishop Kelley community, block scheduling, and/or Lasallian schools.  Teachers knew that she had their best interests at heart and respect and love her for her dedication to her job and to Bishop Kelley.

As the Academic Vice Principal, Judith worked hard to make sure every Comet was challenged to the best of his or her abilities. She is directly responsible for a number of programs including the Brother Bernardine Scholars, new teacher mentor program and PSAT prep classes.  She also helped recruit a number of current and former Bishop Kelley faculty.

On April, 16, 2017 -- Easter Day -- Judith had a lung transplant.  About a year after her lung transplant, she began coming to school to work for a couple of hours a day.  Gradually, her health improved, and she was able to work longer hours. Judith was recently inducted into the Bishop Kelley Hall of Fame.  Judith served at Bishop Kelley 27 years, following a 16 year stint at Seminole High School.

Judith died on November 27, 2019 at 65 years of age.  She was born December 17, 1953.

In the life of a school, the most significant constituency in terms of giving is its faculty and staff, people who give of their lives over years of time.  Judith McMasters gave in a most dedicated, humble and conscientious way.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church (111 South Oak) in Sapulpa, OK.  Visitation will be Monday, December 2, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sapulpa. Contributions can be made to the Bishop Kelley Tuition Assistance Fund in memory of Judith McMasters.
