Jerri Berna Named Head Girls Basketball Coach

Jerri Berna Moving to Head Girls Basketball Coach after 25 Years with BK Volleyball

After 25 years of coaching volleyball and 15 state championships at Bishop Kelley, Coach Jerri Berna will now serve Bishop Kelley as Head Girls Basketball Coach. 

Coach Berna, brings over 36 years of teaching and coaching experience to the role. Throughout her career, she has served as an assistant basketball coach for Kansas City Public Schools, Broken Arrow Public Schools, and at Bishop Kelley. During her tenure as head volleyball coach at Bishop Kelley, the team soared to new heights with an incredible 15 state championships. 

Bishop Kelley Athletic Director Lance Parks had this to say about Coach Berna’s move to Girls Basketball: "Coach Berna has set a benchmark for leadership in high school athletics over the years, both at Bishop Kelley and statewide. She is grounded in her faith in God and commitment to the call of coaching and mentoring high school student-athletes. I am excited for the possibilities as she directs the focus of her passion and determination to our girls basketball program."

Berna was named Oklahoma Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Oklahoma Coaches Association State Coach of the Year,  and Sectional Coach of the year by the National Federation of State High School Associations. Coach Berna also celebrated 1,100 career wins as a volleyball coach last spring. Her tradition of excellence with Bishop Kelley Volleyball will bring a new spirit and structure to BK Girls Basketball. 

“Throughout my career, I have tried to acknowledge and respond to those opportunities where I have been called,” remarked Berna. “As a result, I am excited to embark upon a new journey with the Comet Girls Basketball program. It has been one of the honors of my life to lead the Bishop Kelley Volleyball program for the past 25 years.” Berna continued, “I have and will, continue to cherish the many relationships I have shared with coaches, players and their families. I look forward to watching both programs thrive.”

Berna remains involved with a number of high school athletic associations including the Oklahoma Coaches Association, OSSAA Advisory Board, OK Girls Basketball Coaches Association, Oklahoma Volleyball Coaches Association, American Volleyball Coaches Association, Oklahoma Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
