Bishop Kelley Welcomes Rev. Joshua Votruba as Chaplain

Tulsa, OK— The Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma has announced that Rev. Joshua Votruba will serve as Chaplain of Bishop Kelley High School beginning July 1, 2026.

Ordained to the priesthood on June 25, 2021, Fr. Joshua currently serves as Parochial Vicar at Holy Family Cathedral and as Master of Ceremonies for Divine Liturgies for the Diocese.

Growing up in Tulsa most of his life, Fr. Joshua is a graduate of Union High School and studied Philosophy and Letters at the University of Dallas before completing his seminary formation at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, where he graduated in 2021. His home parish is the Church of St. Benedict in Broken Arrow.

Fr. Joshua’s vocation to the priesthood began at a young age through his experience serving at Mass and witnessing the joy of bringing others into the Church. That early encounter grew into a deep desire to help others know Christ more personally, a mission that continues to shape his priesthood today.

In addition to his parish and diocesan responsibilities, Fr. Joshua has experience working with young people through catechetical programs such as Totus Tuus, where he taught and mentored students in both classroom and small group settings.

As Bishop Kelley’s Chaplain, Fr. Joshua will play a central role in the spiritual life of the school, supporting students, faculty, and staff through the celebration of the sacraments, daily prayer, and ongoing faith formation.

We are grateful for the faithful service of our current Chaplain, Fr. Jon Fincher, whose care for our students and community over the past three years has been a true blessing.

Bishop Kelley High School Names Holly Beers Head Volleyball Coach

Tulsa, OK — Bishop Kelley High School has announced the hiring of Holly Beers as the next Head Volleyball Coach, beginning with the 2026–2027 season.

Beers brings a strong background in both high school and club volleyball, along with a commitment to student development that aligns with Bishop Kelley’s mission of forming young people in excellence, character, and leadership.

Most recently Beers coached with Oklahoma Peak Volleyball Club in Oklahoma City, where she led multiple competitive teams and was selected by the Oklahoma Region Volleyball Association to coach Oklahoma’s U13 team at the USA Volleyball All-Star Championship in Madison, Wisconsin. She previously served as Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Norman High School after two seasons as a varsity assistant coach. Beers has also contributed to athlete development through skill clinics with Oklahoma Peak and summer volleyball programming connected to the University of Oklahoma.

Originally from Owasso, Beers attended Rejoice Christian School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in advertising with a minor in Spanish from the University of Oklahoma.

“We are thrilled to welcome Holly to Bishop Kelley,” said Athletic Director Lance Parks. “She has been uniquely prepared for this opportunity through her experiences in high-level club and high school volleyball, and through the work ethic and tenacity she has demonstrated in all levels of coaching in Oklahoma. Beers said she is honored to join the Bishop Kelley community and lead a program with such a proud tradition.

“Bishop Kelley Volleyball has long been respected for its competitive spirit and strong culture,” Beers said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to build relationships with the student-athletes and help them grow both on the court and in life.”

As head coach, Beers will oversee all levels of the Bishop Kelley volleyball program and work to continue the tradition of excellence established by previous generations of Comet athletes and coaches. In addition to leading the Comets volleyball program, Beers will teach in the Business Department at Bishop Kelley.

Bishop Kelley Names Zach Stephens Offensive Coordinator

Tulsa, OK — Bishop Kelley High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Zach Stephens as Offensive Coordinator for the Comets football program beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.

Stephens joins Bishop Kelley after serving on the coaching staff at Bixby High School, one of the nation’s premier high school football programs. During his time with the Spartans, Stephens worked primarily as the varsity wide receivers coach while also serving as an offensive coordinator at the junior high level. He’s played a key role in developing players within a championship-caliber program that has captured multiple Class 6A state titles throughout his tenure.

“Zach brings outstanding experience from one of the most successful football programs in the state,” said Bishop Kelley Athletic Director Lance Parks. “He understands what it takes to develop players, build strong relationships with student-athletes, and contribute to a winning culture. We’re excited to welcome him to the Bishop Kelley football family.”

At Bishop Kelley, Stephens will oversee the Comets’ offensive system and contribute to the development of the program across multiple levels. In addition to coordinating the varsity offense, he will assist with freshman football, track and field, and will serve as a member of the Math Department.

Stephens is widely recognized for his emphasis on offensive strategy, skill development, and fostering accountability and teamwork among student-athletes. He has strong previous experience coaching and developing wide receivers while collaborating with the offensive staff to implement structured practice plans designed to maximize player performance and execution.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from Oklahoma Christian University.

Stephens will join the Bishop Kelley community this summer as preparations begin for the 2026 football season.

Bishop Kelley Softball Program Announces Coaching Updates for 2026–2027 Season

Tulsa, OK — Bishop Kelley High School has announced updates to the Comets softball coaching staff ahead of the 2026–2027 season, promoting Zach Postoak to Head Softball Coach and welcoming Tiffany Brown as Assistant Softball Coach.

Postoak joined the Bishop Kelley community during the 2024–2025 school year and has quickly become an important part of both the academic and athletic departments. He began as a full-time substitute teacher before transitioning midyear to teach computer literacy while also serving as an assistant coach for both the baseball and softball programs.

Before arriving at Bishop Kelley from Owasso Public Schools, Postoak taught and coached in Oklahoma at Berryhill Public Schools and Cushing Public Schools, where he served as a head baseball coach and assistant softball coach while helping lead teams to district championships and postseason appearances. He also spent time coaching at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Health and Sports Science.

“Zach has been a tremendous addition to our community,” said Bishop Kelley Athletic Director Lance Parks. “He’s already built strong relationships with our student-athletes and brings the energy, knowledge, leadership, and commitment we want leading our programs.”

Postoak expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to lead the Comets saying, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead the Bishop Kelley softball program,” Postoak said. “This is a special community, and I’m excited to work with these student-athletes to continue building a program defined by hard work, teamwork, and pride in representing Bishop Kelley.”

In addition to his role with softball, Postoak also currently serves as the Interim Head Baseball Coach after stepping into the position earlier this school year.

Joining Postoak on the staff will be Tiffany Brown, who brings an accomplished collegiate playing background along with coaching and teaching experience.

A native of Catoosa, Oklahoma, Brown played at Pittsburg State University, where she established herself as one of the most dynamic offensive players in program history.

During her time with the Gorillas, Brown earned All-America honors and produced one of the most prolific offensive seasons in school history, hitting .452 while recording 90 hits, scoring 65 runs, and stealing 49 bases. Her performance ranked among the national leaders in multiple offensive categories at the NCAA Division II level.

Known for her speed, versatility, and competitive approach, Brown will assist with player development, game preparation, and continuing to build a competitive softball program at Bishop Kelley.

Brown currently serves as a health, nutrition, and physical education teacher in Catoosa Public Schools, where she also coaches softball and soccer at the middle school and high school levels. At Bishop Kelley, she will assist with physical education classes and the Blessed Stanley Rother Program for Academic Support.

“We are excited to welcome Tiffany to Bishop Kelley and the softball program,” Parks said. “She has a great playing background at Pitt State along with valuable coaching experience at the high school level. She will make a tremendous impact on our athletes and our program.”

Together, Postoak and Brown will lead the Comets softball program into the 2026–2027 season with a focus on developing student-athletes who compete with excellence, leadership, and character.

Bishop Kelley Named to Advanced Placement Gold Honor Roll

Bishop Kelley High School was recently named to the Gold Advanced Placement Honor Roll by the College Board .

The AP Honor Roll program works to acknowledge schools around the United States that help students achieve excellence while maintaining broad access to challenging curriculum.

According to the College Board, Honor Roll schools, “Reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, maximizing college readiness.” The award also recognizes the broad access to advanced classes especially for students in underrepresented populations.

The AP Honor Roll distinguished schools in three main areas: college culture, college credit and college optimization.

Seventy-two percent of Bishop Kelley students in the Class of 2025 took at least one AP class and test during their time at the school. Fifty-eight percent earned college credit by scoring at least a “3” on one AP test and thirteen percent of the class took at least five AP tests through their four years of high school. All three of these indicators show an increase from previous years for Bishop Kelley.

Two hundred and fifty-seven Bishop Kelley students took a record six hundred and twenty-six Advanced Placement (AP) tests in May, 2025 with an extraordinary 85% scoring “3” or higher.

Nineteen percent of Bishop Kelley test takers scored the highest possible “5” on their exams, the equivalent of “Extremely Well Qualified” according to the College Board which administers the international testing. A “5” equates to an A+ or A in college level classes. Internationally, only 9% of all tests earn a “5” score.

Another thirty-six percent of Bishop Kelley students scored at the second highest tier, a “4,” equal to ”Very well Qualified,” a level only achieved by twenty percent of all testers.

The record number of exams for Bishop Kelley students cover a wide range of disciplines including science, math, English, social studies, fine arts, world languages and business. The largest number of tests for Bishop Kelley students included one hundred and thirteen AP English Language and Composition students, followed by eighty-six students who took the AP United States Government test, and seventy-one who took the AP United States History exam.

Bishop Kelley students scored the highest average on the second-year AP Precalculus exam with a school mean score of 4.6, followed by AP Physics I with a mean score of 4.3.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Bishop Kelley offered AP tests in twenty-four different subject areas.

The Advanced Placement program is sponsored by the College Board. Research has proven that students who take AP classes are more likely to enroll in and complete four-year colleges.

This past summer, God blessed me with the incredible opportunity to go on the Campus Ministry mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee. Going into the trip, I had no idea what to expect. When we arrived in Nashville, I was placed in a group of people I had never met before. We were all from different states, with completely different backgrounds. This was definitely a little bit outside of my comfort zone. But, from that very first day, I realized that God had put me in that group for a reason. We quickly grew close through working together and commuting on the hour drive to our work site, praying and sharing stories of faith on the drive.

Our service project assignment was repairing a house for a woman named Lavern. There, we repaired and painted her shutters, front door, and porch. We cleaned her gutters, organized and got rid of unnecessary things in her shed, chopped down bushes and trees, trimmed overgrowth, and even did some drywall repair inside of her house. She was one of the kindest people I have ever met - so full of gratitude and joy, even in difficult circumstances. Every morning when we showed up to work, she greeted us with a smile and words of encouragement. Seeing her faith and positivity really opened my eyes to how powerful gratitude can be.

Throughout the week, we had Mass every single morning. Starting my morning with Mass made my days full of joy and gratitude. We also had different activities at night, such as Eucharistic Adoration and confession. I had no idea how much these moments of prayer would affect me, but they did significantly. I had never truly experienced God in the way I did the evening of Adoration. Sitting in Adoration with everyone quietly singing and taking time just to be still with God was one of the most peaceful and powerful experiences I have ever had.

There was also a woman who gave us a talk every evening. Her talks helped us to reflect on our faith and our purpose. Her words helped me to think more deeply about how God is present not just in the big events, like the Mission Trip, but in every single part of my life, the good and the bad, the joys and sorrows, and the wins and the losses.

As the week started to end, I felt closer to God than I ever had before. And even though my air mattress deflated every single night and the showers were absolutely freezing, this trip reminded me that faith is not just something that we practice on Sundays, it is something that we live out through service, community, and love for others every single day. It showed me that when we step outside of our comfort zones and open our hearts, God meets us there and transforms us in ways that we would have never imagined.

This Mission Trip did not just change the house that we worked on, it changed me. It deepened my faith, strengthened my trust in God, and helped me see how powerful it can be when we serve others with joy and humility.

I would like to leave you all with one thing: At the end of the week, Lavern wrote me a letter. When I opened it, it read, “Write the vision and make it plain.” Now, if I am being honest, when I first read this, I was super confused, so I looked it up. What I found was amazing. This is a Bible Verse, Habakkuk 2:2, that means writing down your vision is a way to show God that you believe He will help you accomplish what He has called you to do.

So BK, write the vision, and make it plain .

Ryan Klerekoper Named Bishop Kelley’s 2025 St. Francis of Assisi Teacher of the Year

Ryan Klerekoper is in his fourth year as a teacher at Bishop Kelley. In his short tenure at the school, Ryan has quickly distinguished himself as an adept, informed, reflective and engaging teacher of English. Ryan has taught freshmen through seniors at Bishop Kelley, though his mainstay is freshman English.

When Ryan arrived at Bishop Kelley, he moved into the English Department seamlessly; he has become an integral part of the department. His students meet his high expectations, and judging from the flock of students who gather around him between classes, he is beloved of current and former students alike.

One peer teacher describes him as, “One of Bishop Kelley's best teachers. He creates engaging lessons for his students who thrive in his classroom and who enjoy his teaching immensely as well; Ryan prioritizes keeping rigor high while also keeping learning fun.”

Ryan displays a genuine concern for the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development of his students. He holds his students to high standards but supports them in their efforts and struggles. He makes strong personal connections with each of his students. If you walk by his room before and after school, you find a room filled with animated students seeking his advice and affirmation. To help foster his own as well as his students’ spiritual growth, Ryan joined a faculty PLC to explore ways to integrate faith into his curriculum; he is genuinely focused on helping to develop the whole child.

A fellow teacher describes him, “Ryan inspires his fellow English teachers to maintain the highest academic standards. He maintains humility by sharing and critiquing ideas as a team, incorporating new works of literature, and offering usable feedback with encouragement. It is a blessing to work with him; he is an outstanding teacher. “

Ryan holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in English from Northeastern State University. At Northeastern he won the Academic Achievement Award as the Most Outstanding Student in 2019. Prior to Bishop Kelley, Ryan taught both middle and high school English in the Union school district after a ten-year career with Mazzio's Pizza.

The admiration and respect he inspires in both students and colleagues stand as a testament to the transformative impact he has on the lives of Bishop Kelley students.

The 2025 Saint Francis of Assisi Teacher of the Year from Bishop Kelley is Ryan Klerekoper.

The Alumni Awards are given to Bishop Kelley alumni who have made extraordinary achievements within four different categories since graduating from Bishop Kelley.

Outstanding Young Alumni: Sam Littlefield ’10

Sam Littlefield attended Marquette from 1996 - 2006 before attending Bishop Kelley in the fall of 2006. At Bishop Kelley, Sam was President of Student Council his senior year, was also named Mr. Kelley, and was honored with the Bishop’s Medal upon his graduation in 2010.

Sam set sail west and attended the University of San Diego from 2010 - 2014. While there, Sam served as President of his fraternity during his junior and senior years. He graduated with a BA in English in 2014. During his senior year, Sam applied to Gallo Winery’s esteemed sales rep academy and out of 5,000 applicants, was one of the 14 selected for this role out of college. He received world class sales training for a year before an opportunity presented itself for Sam to work as an Account Manager at a global digital marketing agency in downtown San Diego.

In 2016, Sam moved back home to Tulsa eager to take on a role at Littlefield Agency, which his father, David, started in 1980. Sam has been at Littlefield for almost 9 years—becoming President in 2020 during the pandemic! Sam bought the agency in 2021. His role now is leading the charge on all new business and fostering key client relationships for ongoing accounts while running agency operations day-to-day.

Sam has a staff of 24 all-stars…all here in Tulsa. This year, AD AGE, which is a global media industry magazine, named Littlefield as a Best Place to Work—one of the highest national marketing awards you can receive as an agency. Sam was recently elected as the youngest Chairman in MAGNET, which is an international group of over 30 independently owned marketing agencies made up of successful CEOs and Principals throughout the world.

Sam met his wife Tara in December of 2016 and they were married in December of 2018 at Christ The King in Tulsa. Tara is a Doctor of Medical Dentistry and she owns and operates Littlefield Dentistry. They have two beautiful children: four-year-old Matthew and two-year-old Veronica.

Dedication to Quality Education: Dr. Sylvia Hsu ’81

Dr. Sylvia Hsu graduated from Bishop Kelley High School in 1981. She then moved to Houston to attend Rice University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Hsu graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1989. From there, she interned at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. She took her dermatology training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and then joined the faculty at Thomas Jefferson University as Assistant Professor of Dermatology. She returned to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1997, where she became Professor and Chief of Dermatology at Ben Taub General Hospital. In 2017, she accepted the position of Professor and Chairman of Dermatology at the Temple University School of Medicine.

In 1997, Dr. Hsu received the award for the Best Minds of Baylor College of Medicine, and in 2016, she received the Master Clinician Lifetime Achievement Award at Baylor. In 2021, she received the American Academy of Dermatology’s William D. James, M.D. Mentor of the Year Award. In 2022, Dr. Hsu received the Philadelphia Dermatological Society Founders Award. Dr. Hsu has served as president of the Houston Dermatological Society and as a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. She currently serves as a member of the Medical Board of the National Psoriasis Foundation and the Editorial Board for JAAD Reviews and JAAD Case Reports, and she is an Editorial Advisor for DermWorld. Concern for the Poor & Social Justice: Jeanette Lauderdale ’80

Jeanette Bowman Lauderdale graduated from Bishop Kelley in 1980. She attended Oklahoma State University, and upon graduation, began a thirty-year-long career at Rockwell International as a programmer and business analyst. Jeanette has been happily married to Danny Lauderdale for 36 years. The couple has four children who all graduated from Bishop Kelley. Amy in 2007, Matthew in 2010, Tara in 2014, and Christopher 2017. Tara works for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students also known as FOCUS. Christopher is currently in his novitiate year as a Capuchin Franciscan in Santa Ynez CA. Jeanette and Danny have five wonderful grandchildren.

Jeanette first began volunteering as a college student, particularly at Little Lighthouse where she helped with the children’s therapy exercises and play. She also used to visit a couple of ladies in the Stillwater Nursing Home who didn’t have any family to visit them. One morning, after Jeannette’s career ended at Spirit Aerosystems, she prayed for guidance as to where God wanted her to use her talents, and Catholic Charities literally popped into her head! She contacted them and said she was interested in volunteering. It changed her life! She was able to volunteer in several areas including Madonna House, the food pantry, the warehouse, and the clothing store.

One of her favorite memories at Catholic Charities involved her helping a boy in a wheelchair find shoes his size. After searching for quite a while, Jeanette found a pair of hiking boots that fit him; she said the smile on his face was incredible! She has also helped in the kitchen at Catholic Charities where she cooked and served meals to people needing assistance. Jeanette recently completed training to volunteer with Go Life as a sonographer assistant in the mobile unit.

Distinguished Alumni: Marty Sedlacek ’84

Marty Sedlacek is a seasoned sales executive with a career that spans three decades and includes leadership roles at some of the most iconic names in global industry—Nestlé, Dell Technologies, and Google. He currently serves as an Executive Sales Director in Cybersecurity and Cloud at Google, supporting Fortune 100 clients in their digital transformation efforts.

A proud Bishop Kelley alumnus, Marty credits much of his success to the foundational values instilled during his high school years. Transferring into BKHS from a public school, Marty quickly found himself outside of his comfort zone—a theme that would become central to his personal and professional growth. Encouraged by faculty and football coaches to aim higher, Marty embraced challenges and emerged as a leader.

After high school, he ventured to the University of Kansas, again stretching beyond his comfort zone. Despite periods of loneliness, Marty stayed the course thanks to the support and prayers of Father Tom Hildebrand—wisdom that anchored him in faith and perseverance.

His career began in consumer goods with Nestlé, but a bold invitation from a fellow BK classmate led Marty into the tech world at Dell Computers in Austin, TX. From there, he built a successful career in IT, eventually joining Google to lead cloud and cybersecurity sales. His work has even garnered national attention, including a profile in Fortune Magazine—though his story was humorously bumped for one featuring Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.

Beyond the boardroom, Marty has spent 33 years with his beloved wife, Susan, and together they’ve raised three children—Marty Jr., Hannah, and Jacob. The family recently celebrated their anniversary with a spiritual journey to Israel, a meaningful trip rooted in the lessons Marty first learned in his favorite Bishop Kelley class: World Religion.

Marty’s dedication to service echoes the teachings of BKHS, particularly the mantra of “Time, Talent, and Treasure” shared by Mr. Gary Oberste. He supports his parish, donates monthly to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and contributes annually to the Catholic Services Appeal of Austin. He’s also deeply involved in volunteering—logging countless hours supporting public and Catholic schools, even those his children have already graduated.

Reflecting on his time at Bishop Kelley, Marty is deeply grateful for the high standards and transformative experiences provided by the faculty. Teachers like Sherry Vilela, Mr. Oberste, Father Tom, and Brother Bernardine left a lasting impact—not just academically, but in shaping his character. One treasured memory includes helping Miss Meyer set up a volleyball court after school, an act of quiet service that led to a surprise class-wide benefit the next day—proof that small actions can have ripple effects.

For Marty, the quote by Brother Bernardine Kuzminski—“That which you are speaks so loudly, that I cannot hear what you say to the contrary”—is more than a motto; it’s a life philosophy. Being honored with the Alumni Award would be, in his words, “validation to this life of principle”—a recognition that living quietly, decently, and out of the spotlight is the truest measure of one’s character.

One hundred and forty-one Bishop Kelley students were recently named AP Scholars through their demonstrated excellence in the Advanced Placement (AP) program.

Fifty-nine of these students were named as AP Scholars with Distinction. The accolade is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams. This is the highest recognition the College Board offers through the AP program.

In addition, thirty-two Bishop Kelley students were named AP Scholars with Honors. These awards are granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Another fifty students have been designated AP Scholars, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Two hundred and fifty-seven Bishop Kelley students took a record six hundred and twenty-six Advanced Placement (AP) tests in May, 2025 with an extraordinary 85% scoring “3” or higher.

Another thirty-six percent of Bishop Kelley students scored at the second highest tier, a “4,” equal to ”Very well Qualified,” a level only achieved by twenty percent of all testers.

AP exams are scored on a scale of 1-5 with a “passing” score considered to be a “3” or higher. Bishop Kelley offers students AP exams in nineteen different subject areas. AP tests, developed by college and university professors, are considered among the most rigorous college-preparatory exams for high school students today.

In the heart of North Tulsa, where vibrant community spirit meets a passion for equity, a quiet revolution in education is underway. The North Tulsa Learning Center (NTLC) is not just a place for academic tutoring—it’s a thriving hub of mentorship, empowerment, and opportunity.

Founded in the 2021–2022 school year, NTLC was born from a vision shared by the sister parishes of St. Monica and St. Augustine, along with members of the Bishop Kelley High School community. These leaders came together in the spring of 2021 to confront educational disparities and respond directly to the needs of the Tulsa community. What started as a grassroots initiative has blossomed into a dynamic, student-powered program that bridges more than just achievement gaps—it bridges communities.

At its core, NTLC offers free, student-led tutoring in reading and math for K–8 students, serving as a lifeline for young learners in underrepresented neighborhoods. But it’s more than tutoring; it’s a movement toward academic growth and socio-demographic equity.

Humble Beginnings, Transformational Growth

NTLC’s first year was modest: just four students and a small group of Bishop Kelley volunteers. But its impact was immediate—and so was its potential. Fast forward to the 2023–2024 school year, and NTLC had expanded exponentially. Nearly 100 Bishop Kelley students contributed over 550 hours of service, supporting an average of 15 elementary and middle school students per session.

A Space Reimagined

Housed in the St. Augustine Parish Hall, NTLC has also undergone a physical transformation, thanks to generous supporters. The once-simple learning space now includes a library of over 600 books, instructional materials, and educational games—all aimed at sparking curiosity and deepening engagement.

In 2024, a grant enabled the purchase of student-focused furniture, enhanced classroom security, and improved resource storage—creating an environment where students can truly thrive. Ergonomic chairs, collaborative seating, bean bags, and vibrant rugs have turned the center into a space that feels as welcoming as it is functional.

“When we began the 2024–2025 tutoring year in September, we celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony,” said an NTLC representative. “Each classroom ribbon was cut with joy and anticipation. From day one, our volunteers noticed the difference—the kids were more focused, more engaged, more excited to learn.”

More Than a Program—A Partnership

What truly sets NTLC apart is the relationships it fosters. The center has become a bridge between the North Tulsa and Bishop Kelley communities, creating space for authentic mentorship and meaningful connections. High school students grow as leaders and role models, while younger learners gain confidence, skills, and a sense of belonging.

The gratitude is profound. “Your investment in our center goes beyond furniture—it directly enhances the educational experience of every student who walks through our doors,” the NTLC team shared in a message to a private donor. “We would love for you to visit and see firsthand the difference your contribution has made.”

A Vision for the Future

NTLC’s success is rooted in ongoing collaboration. Bi-annual meetings with school and parish leaders ensure the program continues to evolve, always guided by the needs of the community it serves. What began as a shared dream has grown into a powerful force for change—one that continues to write a story of resilience, unity, and hope.

In a world where educational inequality remains a daunting challenge, the North Tulsa Learning Center offers a model of what’s possible when compassion meets commitment. And in the laughter, focus, and discovery echoing through its halls, the future of Tulsa shines just a little brighter.

TULSA — A lifelong Tulsa educator has been nominated for the 2025-26 Lumen Christi Award presented each year by the Catholic Extension Society.

Christine Tyler is a model for setting a positive tone and loving your neighbor as yourself. As a history and social studies teacher at Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa — coincidentally, named after Catholic Extension Society's founder and the Diocese of Tulsa's second bishop, Francis Clement Kelley — she sees each student through the eyes of God. She is highly regarded by her students for her unwavering mentorship well beyond the classroom.

But her passion doesn't stop there-it shines in her work toward North Tulsa Learning Center's mission to empower students and bridge the achievement gap among K-8 youth from north Tulsa's underrepresented areas. Tutors and volunteers at NTLC are moved by Mark 12:31 in their work for young learners: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

The center launched collaboratively in 2021 between leaders from two northside parishes — St. Monica and St. Augustine — and Bishop Kelley High School to provide free tutoring in reading and math.

Tyler has been instrumental in creating a more accessible program in the last few years. Since its inception, NTC hosts monthly STEM, athletics and fine arts activities with nearly 100 Bishop Kelley students contributing more than 500 hours of service annually — a testament to Tyler's role in building bridges between the school and Tulsa neighborhood communities.

Her impact is also felt outside academics. She actively supports the faith by incorporating Catholic values into her teaching and playing piano at school Masses.

Bishop of Tulsa David A. Konderla commended Tyler's tireless work.

Since its inception in 1978, the Lumen Christi Award, Catholic Extension Society’s highest honor, has been given annually to people who radiate and reveal the light of Christ present in the communities where they serve.

This year’s 41 nominees are individuals and institutions who lead others closer to God and transform communities. They have been nominated for this award by their bishop because their stories showcase the mission of the Church in action.

Each nominee will receive $1,500 to benefit their ministry. From this group of finalists, the Lumen Christi Award honoree will be named in the fall, along with a $100,000 prize. ($50,000 to their nominating diocese and $50,000 to advance the honoree’s ministry).

The Advanced Placement program is sponsored by the College Board. Research has proven that students who take AP classes are more likely to enroll in and complete four-year colleges.

Bishop Kelley High School Names Seana Stoia '13 as Head Girls Basketball Coach

Tulsa, OK — Bishop Kelley High School is proud to announce the hiring of Seana Stoia '13 as the new Head Coach of the Girls Basketball program.

Coach Stoia brings a wealth of experience in both playing and coaching at multiple levels. She has held elite coaching roles with PWP AAU and Team Griffin, coached collegiately at Loras College and University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and played collegiately for the University of Dallas following a standout career as a Bishop Kelley Comet. Most recently, she has served as an assistant coach for Bishop Kelley’s Girls Basketball and Volleyball teams while also teaching Theology.

Known for her player-first mentality and commitment to fundamentals, Stoia has helped shape some of the most competitive youth and high school talent in the Tulsa area.

“Coach Stoia has been a major part of the resurgence of BK girls basketball over the past three years that culminated in a trip to the 5A State Tournament this year,” said Bishop Kelley Athletic Director Lance Parks. “She has a tremendous work ethic coupled with a passion for the game of basketball that will elevate all levels of the girls basketball program at Bishop Kelley.”

In addition to her basketball expertise, Stoia has deep roots in the Bishop Kelley community as an educator and mentor. Her dedication to developing student-athletes on and off the court makes her an ideal leader for the program’s next chapter.

Stoia will assume her role immediately, leading off-season training and preparing the Comets for an exciting 2025–2026 season.

Coach Davis brings extensive coaching and educational experience to the Bishop Kelley community, along with a strong commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the field.

Coach Davis previously served as Varsity Football Offensive Coordinator at Porter High School, implementing strategic offensive game plans and managing game flow analytics. His coaching career also includes experience at Broken Arrow High School, where he coached varsity running backs, leading them to over 7,800 yards and 70 touchdowns. In track, he notably coached state champions in the 100m, 200m, 4x200 relay, and long jump, underscoring his expertise in athlete and performance development.

Coach Davis also has a distinguished educational career, currently serving as an E2020-Edgenuity Teacher at Porter High School, monitoring student progress and contributing to student engagement and school culture. His previous roles include teaching Business and Technology at Broken Arrow and Owasso High Schools, founding the Black Student Association at Broken Arrow, and serving as advisor for various student organizations.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Davis to the Bishop Kelley community," said Lance Parks, Bishop Kelley Athletic Director. "His proven track record of developing student-athletes academically and athletically makes him an outstanding addition to our coaching staff and faculty."

David Alexander Joins Bishop Kelley as O-Line Coach, Math Faculty

TULSA, OK – March 5, 2025 – Bishop Kelley High School is excited to announce that David Alexander has joined the BK community as the new Offensive Line Coach and Math Faculty member for the 2025-2026 school year. With a wealth of experience in both education and football, Alexander brings a unique combination of skills to the school, enhancing both the athletic program and the academic environment.

Alexander’s impressive career spans decades of football excellence, both as a player in the National Football League (NFL) and as a coach in the af2 arena football league and at the high school level. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1987, playing for the team until 1994. During his time in the NFL, Alexander showcased his versatility by playing all five offensive line positions, starting 110 of 126 games. After retiring from professional football, Alexander turned his focus to coaching and education.

In recent years, Alexander has served as a high school math teacher and football coach at Jenks Public Schools, where he made significant contributions to the school's football program. As a Special Teams Coordinator, he helped lead Jenks to a District and State Championship in 2021 while also teaching Algebra 2/ELL and Newcomer Algebra 1. He also has extensive coaching experience at Broken Arrow High School, where he served as Head Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director, helping lead the team to a 6A-1 State Championship in 2018 and multiple district titles.

“I am incredibly excited to join the Bishop Kelley community,” said Alexander. “My passion for coaching and teaching has always been driven by a desire to make a positive impact on young people’s lives. I look forward to contributing to the success of both the Bishop Kelley football program and students in the classroom.”

In addition to his teaching and coaching career, Alexander has earned numerous accolades, including being inducted into the Broken Arrow Athletic Hall of Fame and the Tulsa University Athletic Hall of Fame. He has also received prestigious awards including the Ed Block Courage Award with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Humanitarian of the Year award.

Alexander’s professional involvement extends beyond football, having served on the boards of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Jenks Foundation Auction, among others.

“It’s rare to find an individual who is as stellar in the classroom as he is on the field. Coach Alexander is a fantastic addition to our Math Department, said BK Principal Jim Franz. “ We know he will have a lasting impact on both our students and student-athletes.”

TULSA, OK – March 4, 2025 – Bishop Kelley School is thrilled to announce the successful completion of its $25 million capital campaign, the We Are BK: Honoring our Legacy, Building our Future , raising an impressive total of $25,128,667. This extraordinary achievement marks a significant milestone for the school and reflects the unwavering support from its alumni, parents, grandparents, and community members.

The campaign officially concluded on Friday, February 28, 2025, after landing the final five-year pledge. This remarkable accomplishment surpasses all previous fundraising efforts, including the Forever Bishop Kelley Campaign which raised $6.4 million in 2006, and the Championship Drive stadium renovation project, which raised $8.2 million. The overwhelming success of this campaign is a testament to the strength of the Bishop Kelley community and its commitment to the school's mission and future.

Campaign Journey:

The We Are BK Capital Campaign began in December 2019 during its silent phase when Very Reverend Fr. Gary Kastl, then-President of Bishop Kelley, secured a generous $3 million pledge that helped kick off the campaign. Less than three months later, the global pandemic forced the world into lockdown, halting in-person meetings and altering the course of fundraising efforts. Despite these challenges, the campaign persevered, thanks to the relentless efforts of Doug Thomas, Bishop Kelley’s Director of Philanthropy, and the school’s Philanthropy Team, as well as the dedication of the Campaign Steering Committee.

Now, just over five years after its inception, Bishop Kelley has successfully surpassed its original fundraising goal, securing essential funding to support the school’s future growth and impact.

Gratitude for Leadership and Support

The school extends its deepest gratitude to the Campaign Co-Chairs, Beth and Randall Snapp, for their exceptional leadership. Their tireless dedication, professionalism, and personal engagement with both new and longtime donors played an instrumental role in this campaign’s success. BK President Sister Mary Hanah Doak, RSM, went on to say, “From writing heartfelt thank-you notes to attending campus meetings and checking in with regular phone calls and texts, Beth and Randall were key to bringing this vision to life.”

The Snapps echoed that sentiment, saying “The campaign's success would not have been possible without the hard work and generosity of the donors who made this campaign a priority. Each individual and family who gave their time, resources, and support played a vital role in ensuring the school's future growth and success.”

A Bright Future Ahead:

The funds raised through the We Are BK Capital Campaign play a crucial role in enhancing the student experience at Bishop Kelley, supporting academic excellence, facility improvements, and continued growth in the school’s endowments. The success of this campaign ensures that Bishop Kelley will continue to be a beacon of academic and spiritual formation for generations to come.

Class of 2025 National Merit Scholarship Students Honored

Sixteen students in the Bishop Kelley Class of 2025 have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program based on their exceptional performance through College Board testing.

The seniors include five National Merit Semi-finalists, three National Merit Commended Scholars, two National Merit Hispanic Scholars, four National Merit Indigenous Scholars, two National Merit First Generation Scholars, and one National Merit African American Scholar.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognizes students from throughout the United States who demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability and strong academic potential for collegiate success. Some become candidates for special scholarships offered by corporate sponsors.

Five Bishop Kelley Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists!

SEMIFINALISTS IN THE 2025 NATIONAL MERIT® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

(Evanston, Illinois) Today officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, including the following Bishop Kelley High School students:

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 280 business organizations, higher education institutions, and individual donors that share NMSC's goals of honoring the nation's scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

Steps in the 2025 Competition

Over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state's percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test.

From over 16,000 Semifinalists, more than 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level, and in February they will be notified of this designation. All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference.

National Merit Scholarships

Three types of National Merit Scholarships will be offered in the spring of 2025. Every Finalist will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit® $2500 Scholarships that will be awarded on a state-representational basis. About 770 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards will be provided by approximately 130 corporations and business organizations for Finalists who meet their specified criteria, such as children of the grantor's employees or residents of communities where sponsor plants or offices are located. In addition, about 150 colleges and universities are expected to finance some 3,600 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2025 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 382,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.

BK Science Teacher Amour Beals Completes National Science Leadership Program

Ms. Beals was one of 38 hand-selected elite science educators invited to participate in the Teacher Leader Community program from the Nourish the Future initiative.

SEPTEMBER 6, 2024: An elite group of hand-selected science educators from across the country recently culminated their year-long leadership program at Bayer Crop Science in Chesterfield, MO–, including Amour Beals of Bishop Kelley High School.

Nourish the Future is a national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) initiative connecting students to modern agriculture. Its mission is to help teachers inspire their students to learn science, solve problems, and see the possibilities of careers in agriculture.

Beals was selected as one of 38 educators to participate in the Teacher Leader Community program from Nourish the Future. Industry partners like the United Soybean Board and the National Corn Growers Association fund the program to help farmers educate the public on modern farming and the science behind their practices.

The culminating Capstone Conference event in the St. Louis area included guided tours, curriculum activities, and an expert panel discussion. Attendees engaged with Bayer representatives and learned more about their initiatives in education and innovation.

“My ah-ha moment has been seeing the sheer amount of technology that's in agriculture. Kids don't realize the extent of it. I’d love to show them the drones, 3D printers, automated irrigation systems, and other technological tools in agriculture,” shared Beals.

Director of Education Gary Abud, Jr. summed up the importance of connecting the agriculture industry to the classroom: “effective STEM teaching requires real-world context, which students and teachers find accessible in agriculture.”

In addition to unique collaboration with industry experts from companies like Bayer, Beals’ involvement in the program focused on leadership and curriculum development skills.

“Learning science through agriculture inspires students to pursue critical scientific careers—many of which are currently going unfilled in the agriculture industry,” added Abud, Jr.

Upon completion, teacher leaders will go on to equip fellow educators with engaging lessons that teach mainstream science skills and concepts through agriculture, in an effort to promote students’ pursuit of scientific careers to feed and fuel future generations.

“By bringing back what she learned at the Capstone Conference, Amour Beals is unlocking hands-on, contextual science that’s highly relevant to anyone who eats. More students deserve the opportunity to learn science through agriculture.”

“Agriculture is important for students to learn about because agriculture is all around them. Even if you live in the middle of the city, your food has to come from somewhere. It's really important that our students know where their food comes from,” explained Jennifer Jones, a Nourish the Future coach and Nebraska science educator.

“The population of the world is getting bigger every day and it's a challenge our students will have to encounter at some point. Agriculture is one of the solutions.”

2024 Bishop Kelley Advanced Placement Excellence

Seventy-four Bishop Kelley students were recently named AP Scholars through their demonstrated excellence in the Advanced Placement (AP) program.

Thirty-six of these students were named as AP Scholars with Distinction. The accolade is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams. This is the highest recognition the College Board offers through the AP program.

Another thirty-eight students have been designated AP Scholars, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Two hundred and seventy-five Bishop Kelley students took a record 605 AP exams in May, 2024 with an extraordinary 82% scoring “3” or higher.

Twenty percent of Bishop Kelley test takers scored the highest possible “5” on their exams, the equivalent of “Extremely Well Qualified” according to the College Board which administers the international testing. A “5” equates to an A+ or A in college level classes. Internationally, only 9% of all tests earn a “5” score.

Another thirty-three percent of Bishop Kelley students scored at the second highest tier, a “4,” equal to ”Very well Qualified,” a level only achieved by twenty percent of all testers.

The record number of exams for Bishop Kelley students cover a wide range of disciplines including science, math, English, social studies, fine arts, world languages and business. The largest number of tests for Bishop Kelley students included one hundred and one AP English Language and Composition students, followed by ninety students who took the AP United States Government test, fifty-five who took the AP United States History exam and fifty-one who took the AP English Literature exam.

To simplify the world that is NIL, a handbook was written which broke down all current and updated policies, laws, and guidelines pertaining to Oklahoma NIL, in the hope that it may help any Oklahoma student-athletes on their NIL endeavors.

About the Brother Bernardine Scholars Program

The Brother Bernardine Scholars Program is a four-year program that challenges students to strive for excellence and to maximize their God-given gifts and talents. The program was named for the Christian Brother and former principal of Bishop Kelley High School.

Students must pursue a rigorous course of study, participate in self-directed learning, view learning as a year-round process and attend enrichment seminars and cultural events. In addition students are asked to use their intellectual gifts in service to others.

Brother Bernardine Scholars must take an average of three Honors or AP classes during their sophomore, junior and senior years and two Honors or AP classes during freshmen year, whilst maintaining a weighted 3.75 cumulative GPA.

Each Scholar must :

Take five AP tests by the end of their senior year
Complete 16 tutoring hours by the end of their senior year
Take an active role in two extracurricular events
Complete a sophomore research paper
Complete a Capstone Project junior year and present senior year

Student Cyber Day Overview & Guidelines for One or Two Day Campus Closures:

PHILOSOPHY:

The safety of BK faculty, staff, and students is the primary factor when making decisions about holding school during inclement weather and other foreseen circumstances. Knowing that Bishop Kelley functions as a commuter school (as opposed to a neighborhood school), the school must be realistic about bringing students to campus. The first preference is to keep the school open and conduct a traditional school day. However, when conditions warrant, Bishop Kelley will choose to implement either a Cyber Day (asynchronous learning) or will move to Distance Learning (synchronous or blended learning). This will allow students to continue learning without having to travel to campus and without having an impact on the school calendar. The school will aim to communicate the plan for the day no later than 5:30 am on the day of the closure.

GUIDELINES:

Cyber Days are announced by the school via text messages as well as school website announcements. When Bishop Kelley announces a Cyber Day, students should follow these guidelines:

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:

All classes will have posted assignments for asynchronous learning, which means students will be assigned work they will complete independently.
Students should use Google Classroom to access their “Daily Assignment” which will be due at the beginning of their class the day of returning to school. Please note the other Cyberday Guidelines below.
Teachers may establish times they will be available for email, chat, or other identified help/Q&A during the “Cyber Day” or identify office hours available for students, which will be communicated to students by the teacher on a course-by-course basis.

OTHER CYBER DAY GUIDELINES:

Google Classroom is the portal that will be used for Bishop Kelley Cyber Day to 1) take attendance and 2) post assignments.
Work assigned needs to be completed according to the guidelines of the individual classes. Work posted/assigned, may point students to other online resources.

DAILY CLASS ATTENDANCE:

Attendance will be taken by the Attendance Office.
All students must respond to the Question of the Day in their grade level Cyber Day Attendance Google Classroom. Each grade has its own attendance Google Classroom. All students must access their Grade Level Google Classroom and respond to the Question of the Day before noon to be counted “Present” for the day. Anyone not responding to the question by 12 noon will be counted absent for the day. They will still be responsible for their classwork but will have an extra day if the student’s absence is excused. If a student is marked “Late” on the Attendance Assignment, they are absent from school for the day. This will be reflected in PlusPortals Attendance. Attendance will count toward a student’s 4 X 4.

Long Term Campus Closure: In the case of a continued absence (past two days), Bishop Kelley will switch to a Distance Learning schedule. Each class will hold Google Meets and continue with classroom instruction. The first 45 minutes of class will be used for attendance and instruction.

DISTANCE LEARNING

SCHEDULE:

9:00 - 10:00 Block A

10:10 - 11:10 Block B

11:20 - 12:20 Block C

12:30 - 1:30 Block D

Each class will hold a Google Meet to take attendance and provide directions for work or instruction for the remaining class time.
Attendance should be submitted at the close of the first 5 minutes of class.
Students not present in a Meet within 5 minutes of the beginning of class, should be considered absent.
Any changes made because a student joins a Meet late (teacher discretion) or due to a power outage contacts a teacher for asynchronous work must be emailed to BK attendance.
After submitting attendance, teachers are strongly encouraged to meet for synchronous instruction for the duration of the allotted class time.
When Distance Learning extends beyond a day or two, teachers should all use synchronous instruction or be available to students during the scheduled class time.

Other Cyberday and Distance Learning Guidelines:

Work posted/assigned should serve to continue and/or complement the flow of a course, but not cause confusion or serve to overwhelm students. One should apply the philosophy that assignments should not necessarily get the student ahead nor should it promote the student getting behind.
Work posted/assigned should be realistic, and high quality with the appropriate amount of rigor. Avoid the perception or reality of “busy work.”
Work posted/assigned can point students to other online resources.
Work deadlines should be realistic and help to facilitate learning without adding unnecessary stress.
In all cases, hold students accountable for the work assigned during campus closures. Posting should include the following:
A narrative that explains the work to be done with specific instructions regarding any assignment that is due.
Provide directions on where to find any necessary additional resources such as links, documents, etc.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Outstanding Young Alumni, Allison Stuckey

The BK graduate chosen for the Young Alumni award each year must command respect and attention within his or her field of endeavor. Additionally, they must have high moral standards and be involved in professional, religious or civic organizations. While at Bishop Kelley, they must have excelled as a student and been involved in extracurricular activities.

This year’s recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumni award checks all those boxes and then some. Ally Stuckey graduated from Bishop Kelley in 2017, having been very active as a student here in STUCO, the Spirit Squad, Speech and Debate, and she won the Principal’s Leadership award.

Ally attended All Saints Catholic School in Broken Arrow before entering BK as a freshman. Ally said she was blessed with many wonderful teachers at All Saints and here at Bishop Kelley. She said several of them sowed seeds of faith into their lessons and they nurtured those seeds throughout her time as a student here. Because of them, Ally says she was able to find Christ early in her high school career. And her teachers inspired her to become an educator as well.

Ally appreciates and values the opportunity she had to begin and end each school day with a prayer as well as the many opportunities to attend Mass that BK affords our students. She said that Bishop Kelley taught her to not exclaim boldly how faithful she is, but instead, to show boldly how faithful one is in their day to day actions.

Ally kept a smile on her face most all of the time she was a student here. She loved being a Comet Ambassador and a Link Crew Leader. She attended several retreats offered by campus ministry and was involved in numerous school clubs. While at BK, she participated in Heart Ball and earned a spot in the National Honors Society. She served on her class board and was committed to doing lots of community service, having earned over 400 hours of service in her four years here. She volunteered at Night Light Tulsa, Catholic Charities, Youth Advisory Board, along with several service opportunities around campus. She graduated from Bishop Kelley with a 4.07 weighted GPA.

When Ally was a student here, the school moved forward with a fundraising project to construct a new cheer gym and wrestling facility that are separate but part of the same new structure. One day Ally came to BK’s Philanthropy Office to ask Doug Thomas if anyone could give to help fund the project. When Doug told her that all gifts were welcomed, Ally said that she had saved $500 that she earned from babysitting and she wanted to give that to the project.

Since her senior year at BK, Ally has served her community as a selected board member on the Youth Advisory Board that’s part of Youth Services of Tulsa. In that role, she has made executive decisions on how to best serve the homeless youth of Tulsa.

Ally attended Oklahoma State University where she was selected as one of 112 incoming freshmen for the President’s Leadership Council and one of the top 25 incoming freshman women as a Freshman Representative Council. During her four years in Stillwater, Ally was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

She was an elected member of the OSU student foundation where she worked closely with donors to inspire the student body to participate in philanthropic giving. As a freshman at OSU, Ally pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority where she served as Vice President of Academic Excellence and then eventually president of her chapter. She was a member of the OSU Honors College all four years and graduated with a 3.95 GPA. During her senior year, she was chosen as a Woman for OSU Scholar. That program is open to all female students at OSU. She was one of 12 chosen for that award. During her time at OSU, she served as a campus tour guide, working with prospective students. She also served as a library ambassador to educate the Stillwater community about OSU’s library resources and she was a Camp Cowboy counselor.

Today, Ally teaches second grade at Jenks West Elementary School and volunteers as an assistant cheer coach at Bishop Kelley. She finds comfort in supporting her students in all areas of their lives. On weeknights as well as weekends, you can often find her cheering on her students at their activities and games.

Ally embodies a true servant’s heart and leads by example with her continuous, positive attitude. She says the leadership opportunities she received at Bishop Kelley gave her the confidence to achieve great things and we have no doubt that she inspired many people at OSU to do likewise. Ally will always be an ambassador for Bishop Kelley High School and will use every opportunity she has to share with others her love of Bishop Kelley. Once a Comet, always a Comet.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Shane Saunders

One of the five tenets of the Lasallian Charism is a dedication to the poor and social justice. Bishop Kelley gives out an award annually to an alumnus who lives out these values in a profound and meaningful way. For many years, Shane Saunders has been involved with a Tulsa non-profit called Iron Gate which has a mission of feeding the hungry of Tulsa every day. This organization feeds people in three ways, through a community meal, through a grocery pantry, and through a kids’ pantry.

For over ten years, Shane has served as a member of Iron Gate’s Board of Directors and has chaired that board. He’s proud to say that they call those who eat at Iron Gate their guests. As Shane puts it, we are all guests on this earth and guests should treat one another with courtesy, kindness and respect.

Shane is a member of the last Bishop Kelley graduating class of the previous millennium…1999! In fact, he was the president of BK’s Student Government. For many years, he has led a life of service to others, both through public policy and direct action. His life’s work has been focused on the alleviation of poverty, a virtue Shane says he learned as a student at Bishop Kelley.

Shane remembers a very candid conversation he had as a senior with the late Brother Norman who taught here for several years. Brother encouraged Shane to really focus on what he wanted to do with his life. Not focus so much on the how, but rather on what he wanted to do with the gifts that God gave him. According to Shane, Bishop Kelley taught him several things. His time as a student here instilled a drive in him to serve others. BK also taught him how to relate, engage, and respect others regardless of their station in life.

One of the things Shane cherishes most about his Bishop Kelley experience is the great group of lifelong friends that he made while he was a student here. He says Kelley gave him the tools to continue his education at the highest levels and without this school, his life may have taken a different path.

Upon Shane’s graduation from BK, he enrolled at Washington and Lee University where he earned a BA in Politics and a BA in Classics. He later earned an MBA from the University of Tulsa. Shane is the owner and president of Trident Energy which is a Tulsa-based oil and gas exploration company. Trident is a domestic producer of American energy, holding interests in hundreds of wells located throughout the United States. Shane is also the owner of Trident Capital which invests in real estate and in other companies.

Prior to founding Trident, Shane served as Press Secretary and Campaign Manager for Congressman John Sullivan who is also a Bishop Kelley graduate.

Shane is a member of the Church of Saint Mary and has two daughters, Bay and Maple, who attend the School of Saint Mary. Shane is a big believer in Catholic education, having served as a past chair of the Saint Francis of Assisi gala which is an effort to build a large endowment to help lower income families afford a Catholic education in the Diocese of Tulsa.

Shane is serves in a variety of roles with Washington and Lee University, including the Annual Fund Council, is president of the University’s alumni association in Tulsa, and is president of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity Housing Corporation. He is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, an organization that gave its most recent Community Service award to Shane. He also serves on the Oklahoma board of directors for JDRF International which is an organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Distinguished Alumni, Tenille Standaert Brown

With a brother who was four years older than her, Tenille Standaert Brown walked into Bishop Kelley’s doors as her brother Jimmy Standaert was graduating from this school. Tenille and Jimmy were raised by their parents in Coweta, having both attended Coweta public schools through the 8th grade. So when Tenille entered Bishop Kelley as a freshman in August of 1991, she literally knew no one except a few of her brother’s teachers. She is grateful that her parents gave her the gift of a Catholic education at Bishop Kelley.

Although she wasn’t from Tulsa, Tenille didn’t let that stop her from becoming a part of the Bishop Kelley community. She tried out for the basketball team and made it. Being on the team helped her to make friends and build her own community. She fondly remembers home basketball games, road trips on BK buses, and even team practices. She had never taken a foreign language until she came here and took Latin.

She recalls theology classes and Mass with then Father Dan Mueggenborg who is now Bishop Mueggenborg. While she has been Catholic her entire life, she had never had classroom teaching of the Sacraments and the philosophy of our faith until her time at Bishop Kelley. Tenille recalls her Christian Living class where students had to take a programmed baby for 72 hours. You probably recall those mechanical babies which were programmed to randomly start crying and students had a key on their wrist that they’d used to get the baby to stop crying. If only it were that simple in real life!

She recalls being in the middle of Brother Chris’ class when she learned of the Oklahoma City bombing and the entire class instantly started praying. One of her favorite memories of Bishop Kelley took place the night before she graduated in 1995 as Tenille recalls the beautiful baccalaureate Mass for her senior class.

Tenille was chosen as Bishop Kelley’s distinguished alumni for the 2023-24 school year. She serves as the US General Manager for the Bama Companies. Bama is a privately owned, food manufacturing company based in Tulsa and it produces pies, biscuits, pancakes and pizza dough for the largest restaurant chains in the world. Bama has 900 team members in Tulsa across three manufacturing facilities and one frozen storage facility.

As General Manager, Tenille’s responsibilities include aligning Bama’s strategic direction with the Operations, People Systems, Business Development, Research and Development, Quality Systems and Food Safety, Supply Chain, and Engineering departments. She works on system view approaches for the long-term success of the company and its members.

Tenille spent many years leading Bama’s customer group, where her team was responsible for innovation, commercialization, sourcing and pricing, marketing insight, promotional management, and customer service. Her favorite pie is the chocolate cherry cheesecake developed in Bama, Poland and sold throughout Europe.

After Bishop Kelley, Tenille earned her BBA from the University of Oklahoma and her MBA from the University of Tulsa. Tenille is the proud wife of Jeff Brown and the couple has two sons. Grant is 14 and is a freshman here at Bishop Kelley and Will is 12 and a 7th grader at All Saints Catholic School.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Dedication to Quality Education, David Ruskoski

Our next recipient is receiving an award for Dedication to Education which is one of the five tenets of the Lasallian Charism. And if you ask 1981 graduate, David Ruskoski, how he developed high academic standards, he will tell you he did that here at Bishop Kelley. A 1981 BK grad, David reminded us that when he was a student here, the grading scale was 93% for an A, 85% for a B, 77% for a C, and 70% for a D. He said that made college courses feel a bit easier since the normal grading standard, the one we use today, is not as high.

When David graduated from Bishop Kelley, he first earned Associate’s degrees from Tulsa Community College in History and German. He then attended the University of Oklahoma where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Criminal Justice. Eventually, he moved to Atlanta where he studied at Georgia State University, earning a Master’s in History and completing his coursework toward a Ph.D., also in History.

In 2000, David moved back to Tulsa from Atlanta and became an Adjunct Professor at TCC while writing his dissertation on a World War I topic. During this same time frame, David was a high school teacher, with most of his teaching done at a Title I high school in the Tulsa Public School system. While teaching high school, David also coached boys basketball and girls soccer. He graduated from Georgia State University with a Ph.D. in History in 2006 and was initially an Assistant Professor of History at Tulsa Community College where he is now an Associate Professor of History.

Dr. Ruskoski has led several “study abroad” trips to Europe, given lectures about American History at TCC’s Sister College, Jilin (Gee-Lin) Normal University in Siping (Si-ping), China, and has given several presentations about his research into the first World War at TCC, the University of Tulsa and many other places including Chaumont (Show-Mont), France.

David serves on the Tulsa Council for Holocaust Education and he has given several presentations at the Tulsa City/County Library. A year ago, he organized and hosted an event called “Tulsan’s Remember the Holocaust” that featured Holocaust Survivors who live in Tulsa.

David continues to serve on the Tulsa Holocaust Education Committee. He serves on the Advisory Board of the YMCA. He’s also served multiple years on the United Way “Day of Caring” volunteer committee. David is a single parent to his three grown children, Heather, Laurel and Paul. Paul is a 2022 BK graduate and he currently attends Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois which is also a LaSallian institution.

David has twice received TCC’s Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence and he also received the Outstanding Alumni award from Tulsa Community College. David credits two Bishop Kelley faculty members for being exceptional educators. Donna Yadon, according to David, brought an amazingly positive attitude to her classes. David says, as an educator, Brother Michael Witt was as brilliant as any that he encountered in his college career.

2023 Bishop Kelley AP Scholars Announced

Seventy-four Bishop Kelley students were recently named AP Scholars through their demonstrated excellence in the Advanced Placement (AP) program.

Twenty-four of these students were named as AP Scholars with Distinction. The accolade is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams. This is the highest recognition the College Board offers through the AP program.

In addition, seventeen Bishop Kelley students were named AP Scholars with Honors. These awards are granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Another thirty-three students have been designated AP Scholars, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Two hundred and forty-four Bishop Kelley students took a record 453 AP exams in May, 2023 with an average score of 3.2; 73% of students scored a “3” or higher score.

Kyle McGill Named Head Wrestling Coach at Bishop Kelley High School

Bishop Kelley High School is excited to announce Kyle McGill as Head Wrestling Coach. Coach McGill has been wrestling since he was in kindergarten. “I started with a strong elementary program in Bixby, where I attended K-12 and wrestled for the high school team, winning regional, state and ‘All-State’ accolades, followed by competing at the college level.” Now, Coach McGill has over 15 years of coaching experience in youth wrestling, training young wrestlers to National and State Championships.

“Coach McGill is passionate about developing the whole athlete, both inside and outside of the wrestling room,” said BK Athletic Director Lance Parks, adding, “he has a natural ability to connect with and develop solid wrestlers from diverse backgrounds and is committed to building the Comet Wrestling Program, as well as preparing our athletes for life beyond high school. Coach Kyle McGill is a great addition to the Comet Community and we’re excited to see where the program goes this year under his leadership.”

“I’m excited to be at Bishop Kelley and believe the much-respected BK Wrestling Program has a lot of momentum heading into the upcoming season. Wrestling provides discipline, confidence, and a newfound respect for life. I hope to continue to develop Comet athletes into competitive wrestlers while also helping them to become better young men in the process,” said Coach McGill. “I strive to create a team culture of family. It’s been my pleasure to be within the wrestling world for 25 years and look forward to many more.”

The mission of Bishop Kelley High School is to carry on the teaching ministry of Jesus Christ by providing a Catholic, Lasallian education that develops individuals whose hearts and minds are prepared for a purposeful life. The BK Athletics Department serves approximately 550 athletes each year across 20 sports.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Distinguished Alumni, David Nyikos

David Nyikos is a distinguished alumnus with extensive experience in International Security and Military Operations. His worldview is vast, and he’s used his expertise to create a safer, more secure tomorrow. His work has proved his ability as a leader and model of dedication and courage.

After graduating from Bishop Kelley in 1991, David attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. Upon earning his bachelor’s degree in Engineering Sciences, he completed pilot training at the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training and F-15 follow-on training. With the training, David flew F-15 jets in Virginia and Alaska and acted as a forward air controller at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky. Upon earning his Master of Science in Engineering Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology, he was selected as a Service Chiefs’ Intern at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. He commanded a squadron in San Antonio and led men and women in ground and air combat in Afghanistan and over Iraq. He returned to school and earned his Master of Arts in Political and Military Sciences at the Royal Belgian Military Academy. He then worked as a representative for the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman at the NATO Headquarters. He served as Director of the Joint Air Component Coordination Element and Chief of Staff of the NATO Air Component Afghanistan before returning to the United States as the Deputy Director of Operations at Air Combat Command.

David successfully led military squadrons to receive awards as the best air superiority squadron and the best support squadron in the Air Force. David is the current Chief of Defense Cooperation for the United States Air Force at the U.S. Embassy in The Hague, The Netherlands, coordinating security cooperation activities between the Department of Defense and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Beyond his professional positions, David has found time to volunteer across the country and the world. He’s coached basketball for the non-profit Upwards Sports and has found opportunities to serve in each school his children have attended. David Nyikos has found a balance between serving his country, maintaining an incredibly successful career, and building a strong family with an enduring marriage.

David’s intrinsic motivation to serve others and leave the world a better place than he found has led to his successes and ultimate recognition today.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Dedication to Quality Education, Marilyn Troupe, Ed.D.

It’s safe to say that Marilyn Troupe has spent her life investing time in the next generation. Her dedication to education across the country has bettered the lives of others and culminate in her receiving this year’s Lasallian Founder’s Alumni Award in Quality Education.

Marilyn, a 1963 graduate, has embraced education as her vocation. She’s worked for Oral Roberts University, Tulsa Public Schools, and Lane College of Jackson, Mississippi. Beyond the classroom, Marilyn has done further work in education through the Oklahoma Department of Vocational Education and the Education & Professional Standards Board in Frankfort, Kentucky. To round out her experience, she worked for the Department of the Army at the Pentagon in Virginia. Furthermore, her volunteer work is evident, as are the results.

She’s served on numerous boards nationwide, including the St. Monica’s Parish Council in Tulsa and the Foster Care Review Board. In the Diocese, she wears many hats, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lecturer, part of the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, and as a CCD teacher. She fills her schedule by volunteering at soup kitchens, Walk for Mankind, and Special Olympics–among other activities. She’s served every generation, from helping young girls and boys with etiquette and self-esteem to volunteering with the Elderly Nutrition Program and the Adult Daycare Center for the Elderly.

Marilyn has raised funds for Catholic Schools in Kentucky, taught religious education in Mississippi, and worked with youth in Oklahoma. She has been a model for all to be great citizens and active community members.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Sheila Grant Michie

Few have matched the volunteering spirit of Sheila Michie. Her work for people from all walks of life has provided light to those around her as she’s served in the Diocese and beyond.

After graduating from Bishop Kelley in 1971, Sheila attended the University of Tulsa and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education. While at TU, Sheila served with the Benedictine Sisters as a reading tutor for students from Burroughs Elementary School and then worked with Sunshine Services to provide care to those who were homebound, either elderly or disabled. Sheila also worked at Children’s Medical Center with children afflicted by severe, profound disabilities, which inspired her obtain a certification in Special Education and a degree in Education. She taught at Burroughs Elementary School with Tulsa Public Schools and then returned to her education to earn her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and her Principal certification. She returned to education as the Assistant Principal of Burroughs and Emerson Elementary Schools and eventually Interim Principal of McClure.

After leaving Tulsa Public Schools, Sheila was inspired to begin the Women of Peace Ministry, where she led women’s retreats and became a public speaker. A new opportunity arose when she was asked to pioneer and direct a Youth Mentoring after-school program at St. Francis Xavier Church for Cleveland and Kendall Whitter school students. During that period, San Miguel School was being established, and a year later, she became the school’s religion and language arts teacher— a position she remained in for six years. She continues to be a beacon for those across the world who read her posts on her blog, Becoming Women of Peace, and through her husband’s company Empowerment Enterprise, where she and her husband, Charles, have organized and led leadership and team-building adventures and retreats with schools, churches, and other groups.

Sheila’s volunteer experience is extensive. Sheila has served on the Catholic Ministry team for the Tulsa County Jail, and as a Section Representative for the Diocese of Tulsa at the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre Southwestern United States. She is a Pentecost Today USA Council Member, and has led numerous ACTS retreats. She continues to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and lector in the Diocese.

Sheila has boldly shared the word of God and allowed the Diocesan community to grow through her help in recruiting some of San Miguel’s first students, and her active involvement in too many retreats to count. Her work with the poor and vulnerable has solidified her place as a role model for all.

Lasallian Founder's Alumni Award: Outstanding Young Alumni, Caitlyn Benedict Gonya

Working extensively throughout the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma, Caitlyn Gonya is an exemplary young alumnus who has used her short time since graduating from Bishop Kelley to do big things. During her four years at Bishop Kelley, Caitlyn filled her schedule with Speech and Debate, among other things, and attended daily Mass.

After graduating from Bishop Kelley in 2011, Caitlyn attended Benedictine College in Kansas, where she got her Bachelor’s degree in Theology and English, graduating in 2015. While at Benedictine, Caitlyn served as a Totus Tuus missionary for the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma. After graduating, she worked as the Youth and Young Adult Minister of Parish of Christ the King and then spent three years in the Youth Office of the Chancery. Caitlyn graduated in 2018 with a Master’s in Theology from the University of Notre Dame.

Caitlyn is the current Director of Mission and Faith Formation at Christ the King. Beyond her role in the Diocese, Caitlyn has worked to implement an event called Song Praise in the Diocese, which includes food, Adoration, praise and worship, and talk. Sing Praise has been held at 11 locations, including a prison. Furthermore, Caitlyn created a five-year strategic plan for the parish and aided with the faith-based elements of the school’s strategic plan.

Simply put, Caitlyn exhibits what it means to be a servant-leader. Her hard work, faith, and service have led to opportunities across the Diocese for others to invest in their faith journeys. She’s used her education at Bishop Kelley and beyond to instill knowledge in others, especially her children.

Justin Walter and Sarah Ray earn High-Performing Academic Honors

Class of 2023 Valedictorian: Justin Walter!

Justin graduated with the highest academic GPA in the Class of 2023: 4.606! He is a National Merit Commended Scholar, a Brother Bernadine Honors Scholar, a member of the State Championship Academic Bowl team, on the Drumline and a member of the National Honors Society.

Justin worked extensively in the North Tulsa Learning Center this year. According to his teacher Ms. Bendel: “He is patient, kind, and encouraging in a way that does not make younger students feel that he is holding himself superior to them.” He's also been called a "math genius." Last year in his APEL class, Justin gave an argument on why to use half angle formulas to solve Trigonometric functions.

He was accepted at The University of Tulsa, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and Rhodes College. He will be attending The University of Tulsa in the Fall.

Class of 2023 Salutatorian: Sarah Ray

Sarah graduated with a 4.586 weighted cumulative GPA. She is a Brother Bernadine Honors Scholar, Captain of the State Championship Varsity Cross Country, member of the State Championship Girls Track and Field Team and will be attending Georgia Tech University.

Vice Principal and Dean of Students named 2023 De La Salle Award Winner!

The De La Salle Award is presented each year to a member of the Bishop Kelley faculty or staff who particularly exemplifies the qualities and characteristics of Saint John Baptist De La Salle, founder of the Christian Brothers and patron of all Christian teachers.

Candidates considered for this award are known to have

witnessed to Gospel values and principles and
exhibited the spirit of faith and zeal characterized in the life of Saint John Baptist De La Salle.

Mr. Pratt has been a member of the Bishop Kelley Community for over 20 years. After spending 11 years teaching middle school science and having completed his Master’s degree in Educational Administration, he was encouraged by his friend at church, who was a BK employee at the time, to apply for an open position at Bishop Kelley when the friend saw his patient and effective way of negotiating a sale with a street vendor.

Certainly, that relational knack is still in the wheelhouse of this year’s winner as he balances care for students with simultaneously providing them clear direction in times of personal difficulty. He encourages but is not afraid to direct.

When our President, Sister Mary Hanah Doak, RSM, recently asked Mr. Pratt what has kept him at Bishop Kelley for so long, he replied, with a gentle note of affection in his voice and visible on his face, that it is the students. As his peers on the faculty have noted, there are some students who simply can only make it through a Bishop Kelley education with his help.

Mr. Pratt is a hallmark of stability for the school as he welcomes students in the hallways, calls them in for dress code checks, manages drug testing, navigates disciplinary situations, assists teachers, cares year-round for the plants in the STC, and wizzes past all of us on his golf cart.

Mr. Pratt converted to the Catholic Faith after teaching at BK for seven years and takes Saint John Baptist De La Salle as his personal model of Christian holiness.

Anyone who is in meetings with Mr. Pratt knows that he carries his purple book of De La Salle’s Meditations ready to lead a prayer at any moment. He recently shared that he looks to Saint John Baptist De La Salle as the perfect example of a Dean of Students. Principal Jim Franz summarized Mr. Pratt's giftedness by saying, “In my thirty-five years as a Catholic school administrator, I have never worked with a Dean of Students who can balance realistic discipline, nurturing direction, and student encouragement better than Jeff Pratt.”

Bishop Kelley High School Hires Brandon Maddux for Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach, Theology Faculty

Bishop Kelley High School is excited to announce the hiring of Brandon Maddux as Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and Theology Faculty. With 23 years of experience teaching and coaching high school basketball, most recently at nearby Holland Hall and, for the last five years, at Coweta High School, he brings an impressive vision, philosophy and desire to be part of our Catholic School Community.

“It is my goal to continue the tradition of excellence that the Bishop Kelley Boys Basketball Program has established and further enrich lives through Catholic Education,” said Maddux, adding “Growth is the key. As I continue to develop as an individual, teacher and coach, I hope to lead students and athletes alike as they grow into the people they are becoming.”

Justin Robinson (’02) named Head Girls Track Coach at Bishop Kelley

Bishop Kelley High School is excited to announce Justin Robinson (’02) as Head Girls Track Coach. After graduating from BKHS, Justin led Independence Community College with five interceptions during the 2004 football season before transferring to Brigham Young University where he was the track team’s top sprinter, posting a 21.50 in the 200-meter.

Since 2014, he has served as the BKHS Assistant Track Coach, adding duties with the Football team as Varsity Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Passing Coordinator in 2015.

“Teams are another extension of a family,” says Justin, “and families have to figure out ways to work together and become one to obtain the ultimate goal. Believe in the overall process, and work through the small details that come along with the process, to create great success.”

“For the first time in our program’s history, the BKHS Girls Track and Field team was State Champs for 2022,” said Bishop Kelley Athletic Director Lance Parks. “Justin’s experience and understanding of the sport is an asset to the team and we’re excited for him to take on a bigger role within our program.”

We are excited to announce that we have named Matt Andrews as our new Boys Track and Field Coach. In his time at Bishop Kelley, Coach Andrews has served in served in various capacities including Business & Computers Teacher and Assistant Football, Wrestling and Track Coach.

“Following many successful seasons under the leadership of beloved Coach Frailey, Matt is the natural choice to lead our boys into the upcoming track and field season,” said Bishop Kelley Athletic Director Lance Parks. Adding, “He’s a great fit for our program.”

Coach Andrews is looking forward to building on the strong foundation Coach Frailey put in place saying, “The culture will be one of continuous improvement. As a team we will be intentional about being the best we can possibly be in the classroom, in our personal lives and in competition. Our team goal is to improve on these aspects of our lives every day and at every practice. I look forward to guiding this program and these athletes to a successful future.”

Sarah Dicks (’04) Named BKHS Head Volleyball Coach

We are excited to announce that we have named Sarah Dicks ('04) as our new Head Volleyball Coach at Bishop Kelley. Coach Dicks was a 14-year assistant coach on BK's staff under Coach Jerri Berna. As a player, she was a member of two state championship teams and an All-Stater. Coach Dicks currently serves as the Campus Minister at Bishop Kelley in a full-time capacity.

She has a demonstrated passion for coaching volleyball, and she understands the importance of connecting our athletes' commitment to competition in volleyball with the overall educational and spiritual mission of the school. Coach Dicks is focused on our student-athletes "grow[ing] in holiness, develop[ing] as human persons, and excel[ling] in the classroom and on the volleyball court."

CHICAGO (June 16, 2022) — In its 37th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Will Applegate of Bishop Kelley High School is the 2021-22 Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Soccer Player of the Year . Applegate is the first Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Soccer Player of the Year to be chosen from Bishop Kelley High School.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Applegate as Oklahoma’s best high school boys soccer player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in June, Applegate joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Alexi Lalas (1987-88, Cranbrook High School, Mich.), Steve Cherundolo (1996-97, Mt. Carmel High School, Calif.), Abby Wambach (1997-98, Our Lady of Mercy School of Young Women, N.Y.), Heather O’Reilly (2001-02 & 2002-03, East Brunswick High School, N.J.), Matt Besler (2004-05, Blue Valley West High School, Kans.), Jack Harrison (2013-14, Berkshire High School, Mass.) and Mallory Pugh (2014-15, Mountain Vista High School, Colo.).

The 5-foot-9, 145-pound junior forward scored 21 goals and passed for 25 assists this past season, leading the Comets (10-6) to the Class 5A quarterfinals. A two-time First Team All-District selection, Applegate was the Tulsa AllWorld Player of the Year as a sophomore. He has compiled 46 goals and 33 assists in his prep career.
