This Years Recipient
Dcn. Jon Fincher '11
After graduating in 2011 from Bishop Kelley with honors, Jon Fincher devoted himself to service and to the Church. He attended several mission trips while at Bishop Kelley, and during his time at Benedictine College he helped begin an annual mission trip to serve individuals on the Navajo Reservation. Jon felt called to the priesthood and transferred to Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving, TX, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. Jon was then sent to Rome to continue his priestly formation where he attained a bachelor's of sacred theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. Jon works with the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by St. Mother Teresa. In the summer of 2017, he spent time in Kolkata, India working with the Missionaries of Charity in the same location Mother Theresa had worked. Jon worked at both an orphanage and the home of the dying called Pure Heart. He returned again last Christmas (2018) and spent his holiday doing the same work. He continues to work with the Sisters in Rome by working at a soup kitchen every Friday. He will begin a licentiate in moral theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas this fall. During his time in seminary, Jon has served at several local parishes in our diocese, including as chaplain at St. Francis Hospital. Jon will be ordained to the diaconate this October and to the priesthood in June.
